Riyaaz Shaik, PhD, Analyst

Dr. Shaik is a Research Scientist at the B. John Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences at UCLA. His expertise spans satellite systems engineering, remote sensing, thin film coatings, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. He holds dual master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering, as well as a Ph.D. in Satellite Remote Sensing. With over five years of research and development experience, Dr. Shaik has contributed to numerous international collaborations across the USA, Italy, and Australia, particularly in the fields of satellite systems engineering and remote sensing. Farid Ghahari, PhD, Analyst

Dr. Ghahari is a research scientist at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and the Garrick Institute of Risk Sciences at UCLA. His expertise ranges from seismic design and analysis to system identification and structural health monitoring. Dr. Ghahari’s research portfolio includes projects sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, California Department of Conservation, United States Geological Survey, National Science Foundation, and California Department of Transportation.

Ertugrul Taciroglu, PhD, Senior Advisor

Dr. Taciroglu brings 20+ years of research and development experience to the team. He is a faculty member and Chair of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at UCLA. He is also a faculty affiliate at the UCLA Garrick Institute of Risk Sciences, where he leads researchers in projects focused on wind, wildfire, and seismic hazards as well as structural health & performance monitoring. He serves on the editorial boards of numerous archival journals such as the ASCE Journal Structural Engineering, ASCE J. Engineering Mechanics, Int. J. Structural Control & Health Monitoring, Soil Dynamics & Earthquake Engineering, and EERI Earthquake Spectra.
